The host city
Viareggio is a small town nestled in a unique geography: 10 kilometers of beach with 100 lidos and a walk with sumptuous Liberty-style architecture lively by restaurants and bars, are the boundary line between the sea and a landscape that is always different. You can see beautiful hills and pine forests in the Apuan Alps, and then the valley is interrupted by Massaciuccoli Lake, on whose shores the Puccini Festival are held in one memorable scene. Inside the city center there is the West Pine Forest, while the Eastern, with dense undergrowth and a rich vegetation, stretching up to Torre del Lago.
The Carnival is, in the parades of allegorical floats, theater, spectacle, circus, but even sociological and political reflection. It was born in 1873 with a parade of floats decorated with flowers pulled by oxen, and now it has become an extraordinary phenomenon of costumes and creativity.
