The event
For the third time in Viareggio, important city for the international yachting, will take place the Star Class European Championship Open which will see players, from 5 to 13 June, the best sailors from all over the world to compete in the Tuscan waters and to decree the Crew winner 2010 in one of the most loved and best known sailing environment.
The Star, sailing boat born a century ago, makes every race a spectacular and exciting event thanks to its flexibility and its high-performance as Olympic class.
The event attracts all the major world-wide award-winning crews, consisting of 2 athletes per boat, including Torben Grael, ex tactician for Luna Rossa, and his brother, Lars Grael, a great Olympic champion and ex minister of sport in Brazil, in addition to all the best Olympic teams who have participated in previous editions of the America’s Cup. Big names also in the Honor Committee, including the Minister of Transport Matteoli.
The organizers, which the Società Velica Viareggina, which for more than 50 years dealing with the promotion of sport sailing, the Club Nautico Versilia, the Lega Navale Viareggio and the city of Viareggio, in collaboration with Viareggio Port Authorities, Viareggio Porto Spa, the Comitato Circoli Velici Versiliesi and Panathlon International Versilia, estimate audiences around to the 200,000 presences for more than 100 boats participating for the days event in the port city.
